Today, we sent a ‘final’ draft of the ILRI strategy (2013-2o22) to the ILRI Board of Trustees. We are also making this version available to ILRI staff, partners and other stakeholders. So many of you have contributed, we very much welcome any final suggestions and comments.
The development of this strategy has been a process lasting nearly a year. The key elements have been:
- analyses of the strategic challenges ILRI faces and of its preparedness to respond to them;
- extensive consultation externally with partners and leading thinkers and practitioners in agriculture and food production, and internally with staff throughout the organization;
- examination of the issues, leading to development of ambitious objectives and pathways to their achievement.
The resulting document sets out ILRI’s proposed:
- Purpose
- Roles
- Strategic issues ILRI needs to address
- Three strategic objectives
- Five critical success factors to achieving this strategy
Alongside this document, ILRI will develop a series of ‘operational plans’ guiding activities in specific areas.
If you have any final suggestions or feedback, please click the ‘leave a comment‘ option above – We aim to have a final final document by 1 October 2012
The purpose of ILRI may be “To improve food security,enhance entrepreneurship and reduce poverty in developing countries through better
and sustainable use of livestock resources.
(Addition of entrepreneurship will direct path for economic gain and addition of resources with livestock will sensitize mindset for responsible use of livestock)
I think the draft strategy is commendable and will contribute to agricultural development in Africa and other developing areas. Consideration should also be given to collaboration between agricultural development and organisations involved in education of the poor in terms of social responsibilities.
